(FOX40.COM) — A Sacramento man has pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor after persuading a victim to produce and send sexually explicit images and videos, according to the Department of Justice.
The DOJ announced that Roland Edward Bain, 40, entered the plea on Thursday.
According to the DOJ, said that the court documents show that between March 6, 2024, and May 5, 2024, Bain engaged in a pattern of conduct in which he persuaded a minor to create sexually explicit material and send it to him using a smartphone.
Prosecutors said Bain also engaged in sex acts with the victim and knew the victim was under 18 at the time.
Authorities reported that Bain’s conduct was not isolated and included a pattern of prohibited sexual activity involving other minors.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
The DOJ stated that Bain is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley on June 18. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum of 30 years, along with a possible $250,000 fine.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a U.S. Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse, the DOJ said.
